A Controversial Topics Essay For This Year
A Controversial Topics Essay For This YearCan you do a topic essay this year on controversial topics? This is not a new question for many students. The last decade has seen many changes in the world and how we communicate our thoughts to others.Topics that are considered controversial are politically, socially, and geographically based. The topics include religious topics, race issues, sexual orientation, immigration, and ethics. This year, one of the hottest topics to come out of the presidential election is 'The Rise of Identity Politics 'identity politics 'whiteness'.The political theorist Jelani Cobb points out that identity politics is being driven by a growing resentment among young people of the 'American Dream' and what he calls the rise of 'anti-whiteness'. Identity politics is the growing sense that the white male, educated class has become a victim of this anti-white, anti-male bias. In this discussion on identity politics, it is clear that many of these young people feel like they are under attack. The social scientists Jay Papas and Gordon Hawkins study the social movements that define identity politics and their impact on society. They find that identities are important in defining a group of people's beliefs and interests. This social movement is driven by ideology and group interests rather than common sense.Dr. John Payne, a professor at the University of Notre Dame points out that identity politics can be quite damaging. Identity politics and political correctness can make people's lives harder than they need to be. Not only does it narrow the range of debate within our society, but it creates social tensions that can lead to social chaos. It is hard to argue with the arguments that Dr. Payne makes. Political correctness has a tendency to shut down intellectual exchange and cause everyone to become 'politically correct'. In other words, we as a society are growing less free every day, when we try to stick to a particular line of thinking, and to not think outside of the box. While Dr. Payne gives us many reasons why identity politics can make us less free, I would like to focus on the consequences for our country. Many of us have seen how identity politics drives people into hate groups and makes them so insecure that they have to do things to prove their bigotry. Now, we have a president whose entire political career has been built on a platform of 'You are either with us or against us.' In this sense, the identity politics of the Democrats lead to violent mobs and protestors that destroy property and take over government buildings. These are the consequences of identity politics. Will we allow identity politics to become a bigger problem in our country?
